For anyone who has been following me, you know I celebrated the launch of a new contemporary suspense novel last year, Speak No Evil (Kensington Publishing). But today, I’m celebrating two more births – the most important one is that of my first born son, who is 29 today. (Happy birthday Chaise!) The second happens to be my first historical romance in nearly a decade. While I took great joy in the reception my readers gave my contemporary suspense, and I appreciated the loyalty that inspired many of my readers to follow me into a genre they don’t much read, it’s the steadfast support I’ve received for my historical romances that has renewed my creative energies and brought me back fully to the world of publishing. So thank you, one and all. You are the reason I write.
I’ve been around a long time at this point, and while I am grateful to have the publishing opportunities I’ve had, and all the awards and titles I’ve accrued along the way (NYT & USA Today Bestseller, etc), I decided with the release of Highland Fire that I didn’t much care about making prestigious lists. What mattered most to me was quite simple at its core. I wanted to give my readers the reading experience they deserved. And it’s with that heartfelt desire that I made the very sober decision to make Highland Fire a KDP Select and Amazon exclusive for its launch. It wasn’t really a tough decision. Amazon’s customer service is top notch. Not many companies out there match their dedication to their customers, and that was at the heart of my decision, but it was more than that. It was the fact that for the first time in all my years in the publishing industry I could coordinate a simultaneous publication for a book, including audio, paperback and ebook. (The audio book will be available soon – yeah!) Additionally, for those readers who are Prime members, and who have joined Prime because their reading habits are voracious, they have the option to borrow Highland Fire for free during the launch period. And with the addition of the Matchbook program (which allows you to purchase the ebook at a discount if you have bought the paperback), whisper sync and the ability for total immersion reading when you purchase the audio book as well, it just felt like a win-win for everyone. I’m not the only author who feels this way about Amazon, and it’s because Amazon treats their authors like they treat their customers. I’m proud to join the likes of authors like Hugh Howey, who recently launched Sand exclusively on Amazon.
This year will be a busy one for me, with four new titles being published this year. In addition to Highland Fire, Tell No Lies (Kensington Publishing) is due out March 6, 2014. The Winter Stone, a collaboration with fellow authors Laurin Wittig and Glynnis Campbell is due for release on April 21, 2014, and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Finally, book two of the Guardians of the Stone is scheduled for fall 2014.
I hope you all enjoy Highland Fire! It’ll be available at Barnes & Noble, iTunes and Kobo on Feb 22, but if you don’t want to wait until then to read it, you don’t have to. Amazon offers a reader for your iPad, iPhone and for your browser, as well as Android devices. To download for your preferred device, click here.
Happy reading! And I hope you have a happy, successful and healthy 2014!
